Sora's Quest (The Cat's Eye Chronicles Book 1) by T.L. Shreffler
An assassin, long forgotten magic, and a girl on a quest to find her mother.
I did enjoy this book, but I am also conflicted. I am conflicted about Sora and Crash. I can't say more without a spoiler so if you want to read a spoiler see below: * * * * * * * * * * * * * * spoiler below * * * * * * * * * * * * * Sora BEGS Crash to take her away and then immediately screams kidnap when she realizes he may not be a good guy. Really?! And Crash murders her father, or who she thinks is her father, and she hates him for it. Yet, she ends up falling for him. I understand that they are stuck together and he saves her a few times and they spend a couple months together, but...Stockholm syndrome completely. I don't know, Crash is so cold to her the whole time and then WHAM he has feelings because she almost dies, but he admits that he hadn't cared about her at all up until that point. I get that assassins are supposed to be cold and ruthless, but it almost seemed to take it a bit too far. I'm likely to read book two, but I'm not sure when. Also, the beginning makes you really feel for Volcrian and then he becomes this monster bad guy. WTF.
