Book Review: Before Midnight

3/5 Stars

Before Midnight by Jennifer Blackstream is book one in the Blood Prince Series and is free on Kindle.

I don’t generally read retellings of fairy tales, but I decided to give Before Midnight a chance. Loupe lives with her evil stepmother and stepsisters who treat her like dirt. They illegally kill wolves and force Loupe to prepare the skins for the stepmother to send to her kin who wear them during combat. When Loupe prepares to skin one of the wolves she discovers that it wasn’t as dead as she thought and it’s also a loup garou. The loup garou bites Loupe before dying and she has to bury the body before her stepmother learns what happened. Prince Etienne is a born werewolf who was given a “gift” by a witch that becomes a curse as it is slowly turning him human. I enjoyed this unique take on Cinderella and applaud Blackstream for her creativity. This was the first book in the Blood Prince Series and I will definitely check out the other books in this series. All in all I give it 3 stars as a fun retelling of Cinderella starring a sexy werewolf prince and an abused loup garou.
